Main Tourist Attractions in Ixtapa

Ixtapa Zihuatanejo is unique among the magnificent tropical beach destinations. It offers the best of both worlds: on one hand, the modernity and luxury to be found in Ixtapa, and on the other, only 4 miles away, the enchantment of the small fishing town of Zihuatanejo.

This contrast on the Pacific coast offers the visitor the possibility of choosing a modern infrastructure or a traditional place for a holiday, both with a tranquil atmosphere of and impeccable service.

In Ixtapa, first class hotels can be found the length of Palmar Beach, 2 miles of soft sand. On the other side of the Hotel Zone and meticulously designed, lies the Paseo Ixtapa Avenue where a great variety of commercial premises are located built to look like small rustic villas. In these you can find all kinds of crafts, art galleries, boutiques, coffee shops, gourmet restaurants and even nightclubs that close in the early hours of the morning. Another zone in this development is the Marina Ixtapa, the growth of which has been controlled with the purpose of keeping the style and beauty that characterizes Ixtapa.

Only ten minutes from Ixtapa, life in Zihuatanejo remains focused around the town`s Playa Principal (main beach), the dock (where every morning the fishermen arrive) and around the little streets paved with decorative bricks. The visitor can choose to stay in one of the cozy little hotels that are found in the town, in a modest bungalow or in one of the small luxurious hotels nestled along the beautiful beaches.

Two favorite beaches in the bay are Las Gatas and La Ropa (this one owes its name to a Spanish galleon that was transporting cloth and silk from the Orient). Both beaches shelter under simple palapas, restaurants that serve very fresh fish and seafood.

There are countless activities that the visitor can engage in during his stay. Among them is golf that can be played in the Marina Ixtapa Golf Club, designed by Robert Von Hague, and the Palma Real Golf Course designed by Robert Trent Jr. both with 18 holes. Ixtapa Zihuatanejo has been classified as the second most important site for sport fishing in the world and the first in México.

Other sports that can be practiced are tennis, scuba diving with spectacular views along underwater canyons and coral formations, water skiing, surfing on beaches like Troncones, horseback riding along mango and papaya plantations, excursions, bicycle riding, rappel, kayaking in the mangroves of Barra de Potosí and rafting near the village of Petatlán. The new cycling track goes from Ixtapa, near the golf course, to Zihuatanejo and it is a route where you can practice sports, have fun and enjoy incomparable scenery. The visit to the crocodile farm must not be missed!
Undoubtedly, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo is one of the best ideas when thinking about taking a holiday at the beach. A place where numberless activities come together with the beauty and excellent infrastructure of one of the most singular places of all tourist developments.

The recently inaugurated Maxi highway Siglo XXI that joins Ixtapa Zihuatanejo with Morelia, Michoacan, makes it easy to get there by car from México in 6 hours, from Toluca, Querétaro and Leon in 5 hours and from Morelia itself in only 3 hours.
Come to Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, beaches where holiday making is always an extra pleasure.
